Calif LaCrima

by TomHill » Thu Dec 10, 2015 1:21 pm

I've long been a big fan of the LaCrima di Morro d'Alba wines from LeMarche in Italy. They have a strong black cherry cola character not too unlike Refosco or Schioppettino (w/o the pepper). In 2009, George & Mick Unti planted 180 vines of this grape in their DCV property. They have just released their first wine from LaCrima, a blend of '12, '13, '14 vintages:

My order's in...so you all can scrap for the remaining few btls.

Their Segromingo blend is also first rate. I like what Unti is doing of late.

If you should ever come across a Marche Viscole wine...jump on it. This dessert wine is a blend of Viscole cherries and LaCrima wine, made in several different ways. Incredible stuff. Unfortunately nobody in Calif has listened to my advice to make such a wine. Like they say.."a prophet in his time...".
