WTN: Great California Sparkling Wine

by David M. Bueker » Wed Mar 16, 2016 7:58 pm

2011 Ultramarine Pinot Noir Rosé Heintz Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (3/16/2016)
First things first, the wife declared this delicious. It is delicious. Lots of red fruit, very precise mousse and plenty of refreshing acidity make for an easy to drink and food friendly sparkling wine that raises the bar for California sparklers. This is the first time I have ever been able to confidently state that a California sparkling wine is fully competitive with Champagne. It speaks with a California voice and has all the virtues of Champagne.

We have had pretty much ever Roederer product (from both their French and Californian operations) too many times to count. Always delicious. Their basic Brut NV is very strong lately.

I'm heartened to see more serious domestic sparklers like this coming into the marketplace. The Knot's Halyard BdB has been best in class so far. We also love the Roederer L'ermitage in most vintages. And there's a surprisingly correct entry from the WA/OR border called Analemma, the only one I've had from the PNW that nails the French style. but they know it--$55.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I have also heard good things about Inman Family's sparklers. I have one to try soon.
