WTN: Another Gus Wine

by Jim Grow » Mon Jun 20, 2016 9:13 pm

2005 Eagles Trace Cabernet again from my off-site cellar. This very dark 100% cabernet sauvignon wine was even younger tasting than the previous posting by me. Tannins were slightly less resolved than the 2006 Res. with nice but again primary flavors of mostly plum with a trace of dustiness. This is from a vineyard Gus bought after selling the Conn Valley Vineyard to his son and is next-door. I am thinking that this vineyard is younger than the Conn Valley Vineyard and might explain the youthfulness. In any event, these wines take too long to evolve and I will probably not buy them again. I have some of their pinot noir and the few bottles I have tried from the Valhalla Vineyard are quite nice but again need lots of time.
