by TomHill » Wed Nov 23, 2016 12:54 pm

Cracked this open last night:
1. Jaffurs Syrah SBC (14.8%) 2013: Dark color; very intense blackberry/Syrah/ripe/boysenberry slight milk of magnesia/pungent strong toasty/smokey/oak rather spicy/peppery classic SBC Syrah nose; bit soft very rich/lush very strong blackberry/Syrah/ripe/spicy/peppery strong toasty/charred/oak/smokey very juicy lovely flavor; very long rich/lush/mouthfilling ripe/blackberry/Syrah/peppery/boysenberry rather smokey/toasty/oak finish w/ modest ripe/lush tannins; loaded w/ big/juicy Syrah fruit but not over the top; should go out another 4-8 yrs; quintessential/classic SBC Syrah at a great price. $24.00

1. This is, of course, the basic Jaffurs Syrah. It's a no-brainer buy every year. The new '14 version should be arriving any day now. I might mention that I've followed Jaffurs from (before) the very start...when LarryArchibald & I sat out on the front porch of BobSenn's LOW&SE shop and had the first Jaffurs Viognier. just drawn from barrel that morning by Craig in SantaMaria, served up in a Gerber's baby food jar on a chilly/misty/overcast morning. An inauspicious start to a long friendship.
