WTN: Two More Novy's...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Feb 15, 2017 12:00 pm

Did better last night when I tried:
1. Novy Zin PaperaRanch/RRV (14.0%) 2004: Med.light color w/ light bricking; rather pencilly/cedary/slight Siduri oak some dusty/OV light blackberry/Zin/spicy rather complex mature Zin nose; soft rather pencilly/cedary/oak quite spicy light raspberry/blackberry/Zin light dusty/OV rather complex delicate flavor w/ light smooth tannins; very long quite spicy some cedary/pencilly/oak some light/raspberry/blackberry/Zin light earthy/dusty/OV finish w/ light smooth/velvety tannins; a lovely fully mature complex old Zin; not a wine that's cracking up but one that's quietly fading away w/ a whisper.

2. Novy Syrah SantaLuciaHighlands (14.8%) 2004: Very dark color w/ no bricking; slight reductive/pungent some fragrant/perfumed/insecticide/licorice strong ripe/Syrah/blackberry/boysenberry light herbal/thyme some smokey/toasty/oak fairly complex nose; lightly tart some smokey/toasty/oak strong ripe Syrah/boysenberry/blackberry/quite spicy some herbal/SLH/thyme flavor w/ some ripe/smooth tannins; very long/lingering quite spicy/herbal/thyme strong blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/ripe some toasty/oak slight alcoholic finish w/ some smooth/ripe tannins; probably right at its peak; a lovely mature Novy Syrah.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. In both of these wines, there was a noticible oak influence. However, it was not the usual "Siduri oak" signature that I often find in Adam's reds.
Ohhhhh...and did I mention...that Jenise has followed Adam's wines from before the very start?? I am such a loser!!
