WTN: You Can Go Your Own Viognier

by David M. Bueker » Fri May 12, 2017 7:59 am

2016 Dirty and Rowdy Viognier Alder Springs Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (5/11/2017)
First taste of this new wine from Dirty & Rowdy, and right off the bat it was varietally correct, showing peachy fruit tones and floral notes. There was a bit of viscosity to the palate feel, and the fruit tones carried through the mid-palate. Where the wine became more that just a really nice quaff was on the finish. Each sip brought out a savory richness that blossomed and lingered on the finish. I puzzled over it for quite a while, but could never put my finger on what exactly was the savory note. I kept going back and back again for an extra sip to try to figure it out. It was a delicious accent that made the wine much more interesting to me. I left a third of the bottle corked in the fridge, intending to go back again in 24 hours to see if time brings insight.
