WTN: 2002 Bailyena Firepeak Vineyard Pinot Noir (Central Coast)

Long day and night of endless meetings. Opened this bottle, which I've had for a while. Stored too cold.

Not sure about this wine. There's nothing "bad" about it, but it reminds me of why I got away from Pinots recently. Nice cherry color, some nice nose. Bright cherry fruit on the palette with some crisp acid. Went fine with the pearl cous cous salad I pulled out the refrigerator.

So...on the one hand it's crisp, low in alcohol (13.5%), light, and fruity. I just prefer a little more dirt and mushroom and funkiness. There's nothing at all "wrong" with this, just not my palette. Maybe a little simple-it's not even really too sweet-the acid cuts that.

Second Day: with a baked potato and cottage cheese, of all things (Hey-I'm a bachelor!). You know-it's a little better today. A little deeper, richer. Still nice acid, and a beautiful ruby color. I polished off a glass before I realized it. It's still not really my style of pinot, but it's fine.
