by TomHill » Mon Sep 04, 2017 12:19 pm

Tried these over the last three days:
1. Dom.du Tariquet IGP: Cotes de Gascone (MeBaD; 45% UgniBlanc/35% Colombard/10% Sauvignon/10% GrosManseng; 10.5%; www.Tariquet.com; RobertKacher) Eauze 2014: Screwtop popped when opened; lots of bubbles on side of glass; slightly flowery/dandelion/new mown grass/fresh rather stony/chalky/steely pleasant enough nose; very soft/flat some CO2/spritz that collapses on the palate very light flowery/dandelion some stony/chalky quite vapid flavor; very short soft/flaccid strong CO2/spritzy light stony/chalky quite vapid finish; pleasant enough nose bu dull as dishwater on the palate; the egregious use of added CO2 doesn't rescue this wine from utter banality; overpriced at $15.00 (KK)

2. Agerre Dd'O: Getariako Txakolina (11%; HondarribiZuri grape) Emilio Ostolaza/Getaria-Gipuzkoa 2015: Loads of bubbles coating the glass that dissapate rapidly; strong mineral/stony/chalky/perfumed talc slight flowery/perfumed/fruity very attractive nose; very tart/tangy/grapefruity no CO2 quite stony/mineral/chalky/steely light flowery/spicy/gardenia/carnation brisk/zippy flavor; very long very tart/tangy/grapefruity/citrusy rather stony/mineral/chalky/perfumed talc/metallic/steely finish; a very mineral-driven Basque white. $19.00 (KK)

3. Dom.Bernard Reibel Riesling Tradition AC: Vin d'Alsace (12%; CircoVino) Chatenois 2013: Light gold color; lovely gout de petrol/Mosel valve oil very fragrant R/floral/mango slight mineral/stony/chalky beautiful aromatic nose; very soft/fat rather sweet (2%-3%?) light mango/R/flowery rather simple/vapid flavor; slight stony very weak/watery light floral/mango/R finish; quite a lovely Alsace R nose but dull as dishwater on the palate and way too sweet; overpriced at $22.50/100ml (KK)

4. MarcoDonati PinotGris Ramato IGT: Vigneti delle Dolomiti (13%) Mezzocorona 2013: Med.dark copper/bit bronze/garnet color; rather phenolic/resiny/cider/skin-contact light cranberry/honeyed/spicy quite pleasant nose; rather tart/metallic light phenolic/resiny/cidery some cranberry/spicy/earthy bit honey/honeycomb some rich/lush quite attractive flavor; med.long some tart/tangy/metallic light phenolic/resiny fairly spicy/cranberry/honeycomb/honeysuckle finish; more of a rose than a skin-contact white; quite a pleasant/interesting rose if pricey at $36.00 (WE)

5. Meiomi PinotNoir 60% Monterey/23% SantaBarbara/17% SonomaCnty (13.7%; www.Meiomi.com) Acampo 2016: Very dark color; strong black cherry cola/DrPepper big fruit bit blackberry some toasty/pencilly/oak sorta spoofalated/over-the-top slight herbal/thyme nose; bit soft rather rich/lush strong black cherry/black cherry cola/DrPepper some toasty/vanilla/oak rather soupy/spoofalated flavor w/ light smooth/ripe tannin; med.long soft/ripe/lush/soupy/fat strong black cherry cola/DrPepper rather toasty/pencilly/oak finish w/ light soft/flaccid/ripe tannins; about what I expected, a soft/fat/soupy red that speaks strongly of PN but incredibly boring. $18.00 (TJ)

6. Carlisle PetiteSirah DryCreekVlly (15.9%; 60 cs) SantaRosa 2004: Very dark/inky black color w/ little bricking; bit fumey/alcoholic huge blackberry/PS/boysenberry/chocolaty slight peppery/earthy/loamy classic ripe/PS nose w/ little complexity or evolution; soft rather rugged/tannic some hot/fumey intense blackberry/boysenberry very ripe/PS bit earthy/peppery light toasty/oak huge fruit flavor w/ ample hard/rough/bit drying tannins; very long soft hard/rugged/tannic/bit drying very ripe some fumey/alcoholic very intense boysenberry/chocolaty/blackberry/PS rather earthy/loamy bit peppery somewhat clumsey/overripe finish w/ ample hard/drying tannins; still plenty of huge ripe PS fruit but alcohol coming to the forefront and not likely to get any better; shows the oafish side that PS can have.
