or an alternate title: Montes Awful: This 2012 Cabernet from Montes Alpha in Chile is one of the worst wines I have had in years. If I had tasted this wine blind (I am the one blindfolded) I would have said a white Sauvignon Blanc with very slight redeeming value in that it had some herbal note to it. I bought a case to share equally with my sister-in-law due to moderate cost and a score from James Suckling (92) who has now lost all respect from me. This was truly a terrible wine and I am now trying to figure out who to give the remaining 10 bottles to (I tried one earlier hoping that travel was the cause of the wines poor showing), assuming that my sister-in-law is equally disgusted by the wine. abv of 14.5%

White Sauvignon Blanc?

As opposed to red Sauvignon Blanc?

I had read that a red wine tasted blind (no color give-away) can be confused with a white wine but was unconvinced until today! Yah, I guess white Sauvignon Blanc is a double positive( or negative in this case) or something like that!

But for a couple exceptions, have not been too thrilled with Chilean wines. Montes Alpha makes a ton of wine, and I do like bell pepper (a touch) but this sounds awful.

Jim, open another bottle. I own that wine and while my own TN on it mentioned a green bell pepper note, it wasn't the primary flavor and certainly not something nasty like cat pee. Your wine might have been corked. Or form another batch/tank that got more of that strange savage thing that some Chilean wines seem to have. But at least you'll know for sure.

I will Jenise, as I hope this bottle was a real anomaly for whatever reason.

Jim, it's still a pretty average wine and I'm sorry I bought it, but, my box isn't flawed. Just boring.
