Served this as a mystery wine several weeks ago:
1. GarageWineCo Pais SecondSalvo Ferment Single Ferment Series D.O.: Secano Interior-Cauquenes/MauleVlly/Chile (13%; U; www.ElixirWineGroup.com; 800 cs) TwoWinters Itda./Santiago/Chile 2016: Med.light color; rather earthy/grapey coarse fairly simple nose; soft/fat/flabby rather coarse/grapey/earthy fairly light rather dull/insipid flavor w/ no tannins; med.short soft/underacid slight dusty/OV grapey/earthy/coarse rather vapid finish w/ no tannins; a bit of simple/coarse grapiness but otherwise no redeeming features. $22.00 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Pais: Which is known in Calif as the ancient Mission grape. It was brought to Chile from Spain as raisins and planted from seeds. Mission has a reputation for making a pretty dull red wine. This Pais offers full testimony to that reputation. But it was wine, which is what the Spanish padres needed. I don't.
Story/ShenandoahVlly used to make a decent dry Mission. Easily the best example of this genre is the Harrington, made from Lodi grapes. Mission seems to do much better as making dessert wines.
