WTN: An American in Bizay

by Patchen Markell » Thu Nov 16, 2017 10:30 pm

Brendan Stater-West 2015 Saumur Blanc "Les Chapaudaises." This is the first vintage Stater-West has made under his own label, after several years working for Romain Guiberteau; I came across the wine via a Chicago merchant that sells a lot of Guiberteau. This is really very good. Flavors of green melon, lemon pith, minerals, a little wooly Cheninosity, and a bit of fruit-skin spice, especially as the wine warms. Nicely balanced: structured and impressively concentrated, but without being painfully sharp, as I've found some Guiberteaux to be. I got two, at $34 each, and wish I'd gotten a couple more.
cheers, Patchen
