2002 Domaine Georges Mugneret/Mugneret-Gibourg Ruchottes-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru (11/23/2017)
Air, air, air, we gave this lots of air. It rewarded us with floral, Earth, spice, red fruit and cedar tones and a sensual palate presence. It did have a bit of back end grip, but that just added weight and presence, conveying its Grand Cru status. Four hours after opening I am sitting with the last few drops, and it is kaleidoscopic and haunting. This is what great Burgundy should be. It takes the expectations, sets them up, and knocks them down.
