WTN: Ogereau Coteaux du Layon '02...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Dec 14, 2017 2:03 pm

Opened this last night:
1. Dom.Ogereau AC: Coteaux du Layon SaintLambert (12.5%; CheninBlanc; www.DomaineOgereau.com) Vincent Ogereau Vigneron SaintLambert du Lattay 2002: Deep golden/burnished bronze color; very intense orangey/ripe/CB light botrytis/peachy/apricotty slight earthy/chalky rather high-toned complex CB nose; very tart/tangy very ripe/passito-like very orangey ripe/peach/apricotty/light botrytis slight chalky/earthy quite complex flavor; very long/lingering ripe/orangey/late harvesty light botrytis/apricotty/peachy ripe/CB/passito-like complex finish; a beautiful complex passito-like CB w/ light botrytis character; a steal at $24.00.

1. This is a producer I've never tried before. I have no idea why I bought this wine, other than CoteauxLayon wines are a pretty safe bet.
I served this w/ the Loisen Crema Panettone that I got from DarrellCorti. Darrell regards this as one of the best Panettone producers in Italy. It was a superb pairing.

I haven't kept up but the reputation (certainly circa 2002) was always a solid producer with good vineyards. Nothing too distinctive (wines tended a bit on the loose/imprecise/high yield direction) but nothing too horrible.

Found Ogereau CB years ago and really enjoyed. Alas, no agent here right now.
