No wines Mon or Tues, but after a speech Wednesday I thought I would open something with leftovers (roast chicken with cauliflower, lentils, lamb, leek/anise sautee, broccoli). Recently I got a mixed lot of white Burg, included some halves wher I had low expectations (I bid based on the Sauzet 750s in lot). As previously noted the Louis Latour Meur-Perr in 375 pretty much sucked, but 1990 Jadot (Domaine des Heritiers LJ) Corton-Charlemagne half bottle didn’t. Good color, bright acids (surprising for ‘90), with flavors of pear, smoke, and citrus zest. Tangy, doesn’t fade at all. Not especially GC depth, but good. B+/B.
The lamb gave me an excuse to open a red, I chose the 2008 Lopez de Heredia “Cubillo” Rioja.
Good acids, crisp red (raspberry/cranberry) fruit, but there’s a distracting nutty edge on finish. I still give it a B, but will revisit tomorrow to see how holding up and how the nuttiness is.
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
