2001 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese * - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (12/15/2017)
This is entering its prime window, with still vibrant fruit (green apple, peach) along with creamy, stony and slightly smoky accents. It’s only moderately sweet, and in fact once the food arrived it felt like a fairly dry wine. There is a zippiness to the acidity, and a lingering sense of the fruit and smoke on the finish. Overall it is in a very good place now, with many years of good drinking left to go.

At this point, I own more bottles of Selbach-Oster than any other German producer - and I drink over a third of what I buy from Selbach. Just goes to show how much I love the wines. Of course, the fact that the local Donnhoff importer has half blacklisted me because I dissed some Croatian wines she carries, as well as Emidio Pepe, might be a contributing factor.
