by TomHill » Tue Feb 06, 2018 12:07 pm

With Morgan/Jake/Chris in town for a tasting/dinner at LoyalHound in SantaFe, we had w/ dinner these two:
6. Ridge Zin HookerCreek/SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty (96% Zin/2% AlicanteBouschet/2% PetiteSirah; 14.9%; 25 brls;
Hrvstd: Aug 22; Drk: 8/16-8/21: JO; 2.5% water addition; BedrockVnyd) 2015
: Very dark color; less vanilla/
Ridge oak strong blackberry/raspberry/Zin/quite spicy very strong dusty/OV more complex/deeper nose; lightly
tart some vanilla/Am.oak/Ridge very strong blackberry/boysenberry/raspberry/Zin/very spicy strong dusty/OV
flavor w/ modest ripe tannins; very long/lingering lightly tart very strong blackberry/raspberry/SonomaVlly Zin/
rather spicy light Am.oak/Ridge fairly dusty/OV finish w/ modest smooth/ripe tannins; shows less Ridge Zin
character and speaks more of Bedrock/SonomaVlly Zin terroir; approaching the Pagani in level of quality.
$35.00 (ATP)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
3. Ridge: This is a relatively new Zin for Ridge. They did not want to label it as Ridge Bedrock Zin. Not because
that were worried about promoting the Bedrock brand, though. They have a penchant for using historical vnyd
names on identifying their wines, so they named it after HookerCreek that runs thru the Bedrock property and
to honor the Union's Gen. "Fighting Joe" Hooker. And, no doubt, to give a mildly salicious tone to their label.
