by TomHill » Wed Feb 14, 2018 11:53 am

Tasted this in NYC last Fri night:
1. AleaViva IGT: LazioRosso (100% Aleatico; 13%; Btl#6125 of 6500; www.JanDamoreWines.com; www.OcchipintiAgricola.It) Andrea Occhipinti/Gradoli 2015: Dark color w/ some bricking; some blackberry/plummy rather funky/unclean/bretty bit coffee quite earthy/rustic nose; soft rather unclean/bretty some plummy/blackberry/earthy bit coffee rather sour flavor w/ light gentle tannins; med.long fairly unclean/bretty some plummy/blackberry/coffee/licorice earthy/rustic finish w/ light tannins; a rather rustic/unclean/earthy red w/ little redeeming features. $21.00 (AmsterdamWine)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. AndreaOcchipinti is the "other" Occhipinti and apparently not related to the Arianna version. The wine is supposed to be 100% AleaticoRosso, frmtd in SS, but danged if I could find any of that perfumey/aromatic characer I get in Aleatico...just a ton of brett. Guess I should avoid the Occhipinti family of whatever branch.

My only Andrea Occhipinti (Lazio) wine was a sweetish red that I disliked.
But I'm happy to drink your share of Arianna's Frappato. :)
