WTN: Idlewild TheBird Red '16...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Mar 07, 2018 10:14 am

Tried last night w/ my salad:
1. Idlewild TheBird Flora&FaunaRedWine MendoCnty (13.2%; 39% Barbera/28.5% Nebbiolo/26% Dolcetto/4% Grignolino/2.5% Freisa) 2016: Med.light color; strong grapey cherry/black cherry lightly spicy some earthy/dusty/MendoCnty tomatoey slight dried Italian herbs/oregano lightish quite pleasant nose; bit tart/tangy/lean rather earthy/Mendo tomatoey light bright/grapey/cherry dried herbs somewhat rustic/earthy flavor w/ light brisk/tangy tannins; med.long tart/tangy/lean somewhat earthy/rustic rather grapey/cherry/licorice/dried Italian herbs finish w/ light bitey tannins; a rather rustic red that speaks strongly of MendoCnty; the Nebb really comes thru; good drinking red at a great price; will benefit from a few yrs age. $25.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Sam makes a white/rose/red Flora&Fauna, w/ different blends every yr. Though I tend to prefer the white, they're all really tasty, if a bit rustic, wines at a very attractive price point.

David,
The order last week was for the '17. This was the '16 that came in almost a yr ago.
Because of all the Nebb in it, there's no rush to open the '16.
The '17 is 60% Dolcetto, 35% Barbera, and 5% Nebbiolo; and should be somewhat
more approachable.
