WTN: Two w/ Dinner...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Mar 19, 2018 12:35 pm

Tried these two last night:
1. Hanzell Sebella Chard SonomaCnty (13.8%; Younger 10-30 yr old vines; www.Hanzell.com) Sonoma 2016: Light yellow color; pleasant Chard/lemony/melony light stony/chalky/minerally slight herbal nose; quite tart/tangy/lean bit metallic/steely chalky/mineral light lemony/Chard bit grapefruity flavor; med.long very tart/tangy fairly lean/steely/austere/metallic rather lemony/grapefruity finish; a pretty tart/lean/green/austere/grapefruity Chard; pleasant enough for that style but borders on being green/eviscerated; not particularly attractive on its own. $21.60 (Prima/IlC)

2. Vigne Marina Coppi Sant'Andrea Barbera DOC: ColliTortonesi RW (13%; + 10% Croatina; www.VigneMarinaCoppi.com; SortingTable) Franco Bellocchio/Castellania 2013: Very dark color; very strong spicy/Barbera/dried Italian herbs/Italian sausage quite rich slight blackberry/black cherry/licorice slight earthy/dusty rather perfumed nose; rather tart/tangy fairlt rich/lush Barbera/spicy/dried herbs some rich/blackberry/licorice flavor w/ modest tangy tannins; very long fairly tart/tangy strong Barbera/spicy/Italian herbs/dried fennel some blackberry/licorice finish w/ some tangy tannins; a big rich/lush Italian Barbera almost Calif in style; a terrific Barbera at a great price. $21.00 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Coppi: This wnry is a real discovery for me. Don't see many ColliTortonesi wines around. This is maybe the best Italian Barbera I've had in several yrs. In addition to several Barberas, they also make Timorasso and Favorita/Vermentino, which I would love to try. And grow a bit of Freisa for blending.
