WTN: Barton like it's 1999

1999 Château Léoville Barton - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (4/12/2018)
First time back with this wine (other than a corked bottle in 2013) since 2010. It's probably still 2-3 years from total maturity, but it is in a good place now. There is still a lingering core of dark red fruit, the vintage is reflected with a bit of bell pepper, and the nearly 20 years from the vintage comes out in tobacco and developing cedar notes. It's very "Bordeaux." It's also food-friendly - accompanying my grilled lamb chops rather than taking center stage. This is not a Barton for fans of big, rich wines, but for me it's pretty much right there for dinner.
