by TomHill » Tue Apr 24, 2018 10:32 am

Had these three whites over the last few days:
1. bott Hatari Tokaji Furmint (14%; 1532 btls; www.bottPince.Hu) Nebih/Hungary 2015: Light gold color; rather fragrant floral/carnations/Furmint/apple blossom some stony/chalky/perfumed talc slight metallic quite interesting nose; bit soft fairly rich/lush/ripe strong floral/carnations/ripe peach/Furmint very light chalky/perfumed talc bit spicy/cardamon attractive flavor; med.long bit soft/ripe/lush some floral/carnations/peach light chalky/stony finish; an altogether pleasant/pretty dry Furmint but just that; not at the level of Heidi Schrock or LimerickLane. $35.00 (BDW)

2. Evolucio Tokaj Furmint (11.5%; Boutique Wine Collection) Tokaj 2016: Light yellow color; strong very fragrant floral/mango/pineapple/bit spicy light stony/earthy very attractive nose; fairly tart/tangy/bit metallic strong Furmint/floral/mango/pineapple slightly spicy somewhat rich/lush light stony/mineral flavor; very long some tart/tangy/metallic rather floral/Furmint/mango/slight pineapple light metallic/stony finish; not a profound white but shows the aromatic side of Furmint w/ some of the characteristic stoniness; a very pretty white at a great price. $11.00 (KK)

3. Ronco del Gnemiz Friulano San Zuan DOC: Friuli Colli Orientali (14%; www.GiulianaImports.com; www.RoncoDelGnemiz.com/) San Giovanni al Natisone 2016: Light yellow color; beautiful very fragrant/perfumed floral/fruity/ripe mango/perfumed talc/very spicy light chalky/mineral fairly complex nose; lightly tart/tangy very rich/lush intense floral/ripe mango/perfumed talc/very spicy very light chalky/mineral somewhat complex flavor; very long/lingering lightly tart/tangy balanced/rich/lush very strong floral/mango/pineapple/fruit compote/spicy/Friulano some chalky/mineral/perfumed talc beautiful/complex finish; a big/rich/lush huge TF/fruit w/ some chalky/mineral character and good acidity to balance it all out; a bit atypical TF but probably the best TF I've ever had; a stunning wine; pricey for TF but not at all overpriced. $42.00 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Friulano: (Tokaji) Friulano (or Jakot) tends to be a pleasant/simple/quaffable white w/ no pretensions to greatness. This Friulano is not that. This is serious white wine and takes Friulano to a level of greatness I've never before seen in that grape.
Presumably the San Zuan is a single vnyd-designate wine. Organically farmed from 60 yr old vines. No information on the WebSite about this wine.
