WTN: Nana Quinta da Lapa Regional Tejo Reserva '13..(short/b

by TomHill » Mon May 14, 2018 11:51 am

Tried this new wine from my latest Prima IlConszorio shipment:
1. Nana Quinta da Lapa Vinho Regional Tejo Reserva (14%; www.QuintaDaLapa-Wines.com; D'OuroVino/SantaMonica; www.DOuroVino.com; 50% Syrah/25% TourigaNacional/25% CabSauv) Jaime Quendera/Manique do Intendente/Portugal 2013: Very dark near black color; very strong blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/ripe/spicy/plummy slight peppery/roasted some smokey/toasty/oak lush lovely nose; lightly tart rather toasty/smokey/oak intense blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/chocolaty/plummy/ripe bit spicy/peppery big/rich/lush intense flavor w/ some chewey tannins; very long/lingering intense blackberry/ripe/boysenberry/Syrah/bit peppery strong toasty/smokey/oak slight earthy finish w/ ample smooth/ripe tannins; served blind I would have guessed Paso Syrah of maybe SBC Syrah; this is how PhilipeCambie would make Tejo Syrah if he could; lacks the rustic character of many Portugese reds; quite a good expression of Syrah at a great price. $15.17 (PrimaIlC)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. The Tejo region, formerly the Ribatejo, is an area in the heart of Portugal just to the East of Lisboa, along the Tejo (or Targus) river. Not an area I'm familiar w/ their wines.
This is clearly an "International" style of wine, using mostly "international" grapes. Therefore, it is not a "true" wine, so I'm not supposed to like it. But I liked it quite a lot, especially for the price, and'll be ordering more.

2. D'Ouro Vino: This is an importer of strictly Portugese wines based in SantaMonica. Not familiar w/ this importer but they have an interesting portfolio and I shall search out more of their wines.
