WTN: Two of Bob's at Dinner...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Jun 01, 2018 10:57 am

Had these two last night w/ dinner:
1. Arnot-Roberts RibollaGialla VareVnyd/NapaVlly (2 brls; 13.4%) Healdsburg 2011: Med.gold color; classic RG/light floral/carnations/slight pineapple light white pepper/spicy slight stony nose; quite tart bit grapefruity/steely strong RG/floral/carnations/white pepper flavor; very long tart/tangy bit steely/grapefruity classic RG/floral/carnations/slight white pepper bit stony finish; not showing much complexity or evolution; a bracing acidity but doesn't seem lean/pinched/austere/eviscerated; a pretty good example of a Friuli-like RG.

2. Nervi Gattinara (Nebbiolo; 13.5%; www.NerviCantine.It; www.Massanois.com) Gattinara 2008: Med.dark bit bricking color; very strong floral/Nebb/lilacs/violets light tarry/pungent bit earthy/dusty/OV very fragrant/perfumed complex nose; rather tart/tangy/acidic some tarry/pungent/Nebb rather floral/lilacs/violets/rose petal some dusty/OV/truffly spicy flavor w/ light bit bitey tannins; very long fairly tart/tangy strong Nebb/floral/lilacs/rose petal some pungent/tarry bit earthy/dusty rather complex finish w/ light hard/brisk tannins; still can use another 4-7 yrs; very nice balance of floral/Nebb & tarry/pungent character; very lovely classic Nebb aromatics.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. These are two more wines from the BobSherwood stash I recently aquired from his widow. With few exceptins, they have all been in great shape. The Gattinara was a surprise to me because I didn't know Italian wines were within his radar.
