WTN: 2013 Caves Duplessis Chablis

by David M. Bueker » Sun Jul 22, 2018 5:49 pm

2013 Caves Duplessis Chablis - France, Burgundy, Chablis (7/22/2018)
Crisp, yet also a bit broad on the palate. The freshness of the lemon and apple fruit is now complemented by a touch of mid palate creaminess. It feels like the perfect time to drink up and enjoy!

I visited Caves Duplessis sometime in the late 90s/early 00s because of their then reputation for selling mature vintages and came away with a half dozen each of Montée de Tonnerre 88 and Fourchaume 90. Most of the bottles were delicious and none were premoxed; the last was a bottle of the former opened in 2012 and there is my enthusiastic TN in the archive.

It is fashionable to decry Duplessis nowadays because of mechanical harvesting but does that matter if the wine is as good as you describe?

I've not seen anything negative about Duplessis.

Granted, other than postings from you and me, I have seen little about Duplessis.

Regarding premox, the generally accepted start of the problem is 1995.
