WTN: 2013 Rhys Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard

by David M. Bueker » Fri Jul 27, 2018 12:27 pm

2013 Rhys Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (7/26/2018)
Three years of additional aging have allowed 2013 Horseshoe Syrah to uncoil, and evolve into a wine that drinks very well, but is still quite embryonic. Rather than being a clenched fist there is great richness and depth, with abundant, youthful aromas and flavors that cover the Syrah spectrum of black fruit, olive, tar, florals and smoked meat. Tannins are ever present, giving ample structure to the fleshy palate impression. Overall balance is right on point to reward many years of beneficial aging. There is a great deal of pleasure to be had right now, but even more promise for the future.
