WTN: Three Older Turleys...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Aug 03, 2018 10:15 am

Tried these three last night:
1. Turley Zin RanchoEscondido/BajaCalif/Mexico (16.5%) Templeton 2004: Med.color w/ some browning; rather hot-climate/stewed fruit some toasty/oak bit earthy/dusty/OV little Zin fruit nose; soft strong hot-climate/stewed fruit/raisened rather toasty/oak no fruit fairly hot/alcoholic flavor w/ light smooth/gentle tannins; long finish w/ same flavors; doesn't seem tired or drying out or oxidized; just a hot-climate Zin that has not matured well.

2. Turley Charbono TofanelliVnyd/NapaVlly (14.0%) St.Helena 2001: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; deep earthy/loamy/bit rustic some toasty/oak/smokey some licorice/pungent/Charbono/plummy rather complex mature Charbono nose; soft/bit tangy rich/lush rather earthy/loamy/dusty some toasty/oak fairly licorice/plummy/Charbono/pungent/rough bit complex flavor w/ modest ripe/bit rough tannins; very long rather earthy/loamy/dusty/OV some toasty/oak pungent/Charbono/licorice/slight plummy finish w/ light bit rough/drying tannins;probably fully mature as as good as it ever will be; shows the rough/rustic/coarse/oafish side of the Charbono grape.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I believe this RanchoEscondido Zin was a one-off effort. Probably just as well. A bit hair-brained I thought.
These three would have been made back in the EhrenJordan regime.
I've always liked the Turley Charbonos, especially when young. Not narly as good, though, as the ArbeGarbe/Benandants Charbono from the ShypokeVnyd.
