2004 Perrier-Jouët Champagne Belle Epoque - France, Champagne (8/10/2018)
Yeah, I know, big producer, probably overpriced, but damn if it wasn’t a really good drink. Showed fresh apple fruit up front along with a distinct toasty edge, and then deeper, richer tones on the back end, resulting in a fuller bodied wine than I was expecting. The addition of mature tones made it an interesting wine, and even if I would have preferred a little less dosage, the balance was really good with our buttery, salty popcorn.

I love the match and it makes so much sense. It's often discussed, so one day I'll actually do it. The trick is figuring out when. Maybe as aperitif.

We do it a couple of times a year. It’s fun.
