WTN: Ridge Zin Heritage Oakville '15...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Aug 13, 2018 10:00 am

Shared this wine w/ John ysterday (who turns 98 in a week):
1. Ridge Zin Heritage Oakville/Napa (14.8%; 17 brls; HeritageVnydProject; 3 acres w/ 19 different Zin slctns; tartaric acid; Drk: 8/16-now: JO) Healdsburg 2015: Med.color; very strong bright raspberry/Zin/spicy/slight earthy some vanilla/Am.oak quite fragrant nose; fairly soft/lush bright/Zin/raspberry/very spicy rather Am.oak/vanilla/Draper perfume attractive flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long bright/Zin/raspberry/Zinberry/spicy rather vanilla/Am.oak light earthy finish w/ light/smooth tannins; an altogether pleasant bright Zin w/ not a lot of depth or structure or profundity; about the level of the Ridge EastBench Zin. $31.50 (ATP)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
Tasted this when it came in last February:
6. Ridge Zin Heritage Oakville/NapaVlly (14.8%; 17 brls; bttld 12/2016; Drk: 8/16-now: JO; tartaric acid;
HeritageVnydProject/ZAP&UC/Davis) 2015
: Med.dark color; classic Ridge/vanilla/Am.oak rather spicy/blackberry/
Zin bit dusty attractive/interesting nose; rather soft/fat some Ridge/Am.oak/vanilla fairly strong blackberry/
Zin/raspberry bit dusty/earthy attractive flavor w/ light smooth/ripe tannins; long soft strong blackberry/
Zin/raspberry some Ridge/Am.oak slight earthy/dusty finish w/ light soft tannins; plenty of blackberry/Zin
fruit but not very structured and lacks grip. $31.50 (ATP)

It seems to have put on a bit of weight since we first had it..but still not a very thrilling Ridge Zin.

New site for them, or is this a sub-plot of an existing source?

David,
This is a plot of Zin planted maybe 15 yrs ago on the Oakville UC/Davis experimental vnyd.
A joint effort of UC and ZAP. Every yr, a ZAP-member wnry gets a shot at that small plot of grapes.
This was their yr. I think they have made Zin from this plot in the past...but maybe not released.
I expect it will be repeated again from time to time.
