Interesting article in today's SacBee by Mike Dunne:

on his recent trip up Wisconsin way.

Frontenac, Marquette, Marechal Foch and La Crescent, for example – though stylistically the wines they yield can be similar in flavor and structure to what Californians favor, but with less-strident tannins and more-pronounced acidity, broadly speaking

Definitely 'broadly speaking! Very diplomatic.

Paul Bulas might demur but I don't think these varieties will give California winemakers sleepness nights.

Incidentally, I've had a white wine made from Wisconsin 'Canadice' grapes made by a winery in Minnesota.

Quite a collection of wines! One is grown in Washington State, crushed in the Finger Lakes, and fermented in Wisconsin! Hard to believe it was not possible to find a crush facility closer than New York. We tried a number of wines not far from there in central Iowa over a decade ago, and it sounds similar. I have a pretty broad range of "drinkable" and don't mind sugar in my wine, and many weren't bad. Honestly, though 1 in 20 sounds about right, though.
