We were tasting Nebbs vs. Sangios at BBB last night, so I dredged this up to take:
1. Rosa d'Oro Nebbiolo Riserva Calif (4 brls; 13.8%; www.RosadOroWine.com) NV: Very dark color; very strong floral/Nebb/violets/lilacs very slight Nebb tarry light toasty/oak rather spicy/slight truffle/pungent quite aromatic very attractive nose; rather tart pretty hard/tannic very strong floral/lilacs/violets/Nebb/rose pettal very light tarry/truffley/pungent some complex flavor w/ ample fierce tannins; very long/lingering very strong floral/Nebb/violets/lilacs light toasty/oak slight pungent/truffle/road tar finish w/ ample hard/gritty tannins; really lovely Nebb aromatics on the floral part of the specrum but pretty hard/unforgiving on the palate.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Rosa d'Oro is a wnry specializing in Italian varietals up in LakeCnty. Wine maker is PietroButtita and I presume he still is, though not sure how hands on these days w/ his PrimaMateria operation down in Oakland. The WebSite looks a bit stale.
Not sure the provenance of this lone btl. I believe it was an early one that Pietro gifted me with. Seem to recall it was a blend of two vintages.
Pietro has been an early/active participant in our NEB group. I think he focuses now mostly on his PrimaMateria effort ( PrimaMateria ). Presumably made & grown up in ClearLake in LakeCnty. Supposedly, will have a tasting room open there in Oakland soon. Peter is a very accomplished chef and apparently does occasional pop-up SupperClub dinners there in the Bay Area. It's all a bit confusing to me. Very interesting Italian guy and very passionate about what he does.
