FIVE ESJ sightings in Portland, OR!

by Hoke » Wed Jan 31, 2007 4:19 pm

While perusing a wine list from Southpark Seafood Grill & Wine Bar, a hip and happening small place in Portland, OR with a great wine program, I noticed they had an ESJ by-the glass (The Shadow, 2002) for $4.25 a half glass, $8 a glass, and $32 bottle.

On the regular bottle list they also had the
...ESJ Pink Froid Rose 2004 @ $30
...ESJ Tablas Creek Paso Robles 2004 @ $65
...ESJ Los Robles Viejos Rozet Vineyard, CA @ $49

...ESJ Bassetti Vineyard, San Luis Obispo 2003 for $89. And it was listed under the category of "European Style Wines with Earth and Spice"

Bunch of other tasty little goodies on the list too.

It's obvious that someone at the Southpark knows their wines!

There's a guy in Portland who calls himself Guy du Vin, named Dave Holstrom, who used to do the wine program there, and still may, not sure. If not, I need to meet the new person, too! :D

Thanks for the post, Hoke -- it reminded me to send off an order for the Shadow -- nice wine. Sounds like a great place.

According to Ronn Wiegand, Holstrum left in March 2005 "to pursue other ventures", and Beverage Manager Will Prouty took over the wine program himself. One of the reasons I admire Prouty (in addition to his great wine list) is that he insists on working the bar and selling on the floor a minimum of three days a week. He says putting the list together is cool, but what's even cooler is getting the feedback from the customers and understanding what works and what doesn't.

Sounds like a great guy. You should get to know him. Road trip! Road trip!!! :)

Hoke,
What a great concept. Hand selling and getting feedback from real people.
