WTN: Two Reds O'er the Weekend.....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Oct 16, 2018 12:13 pm

Had these two reds on Sunday:
1. Ioppa Nebbiolo DOC: Colline Novaresi (12.5%; www.GiulianaImports.com) Az.Agr. Ioppa F.Illi Gianpiero e Giorgio/Romagnano/Sesia 2015: Light color; attractive floral/violets/Nebb very light tarry nose; quite tart/tangy/somewhat sour some metallic very light floral/violets/Nebb slight earthy rather anemic/light flavor w/ light bitey/crunchy tannins; med. quite tart/tangy/metallic/bitey/angular lean/eviscerated light floral/violets/lilacs/Nebb very slight tarry finish w/ light astringent/bitter tannins; an altogether pleasant nose that speaks quietly of Nebb but a mean widdle kid of a wine on the palate; disappointing for an Ioppa. $24.00 (KK)

2. VIE Zin BeattyRanchVnyd/HowellMtn/NapaVlly (80 yr old head-pruned vines; 14.5%; www.VieWinery.com) V&B by VieWnry/Sonoma 2007: Med.dark color w/ slight bricking; very strong very spicy/peppery/blackberry/Zin some toasty/oak rather earthy/dusty/OV bit rustic/licorice/pungent quite complex/old-timey beautiful nose; lightly tart/metallic strong blackberry/licorice/Zin/very spicy fairly earthy/dusty/OV rather tangy/angular/drying/rough fairly complex flavor w/ light drying/astringent tannins; very long/lingering rather tangy/metallic/drying out strong very spicy/blackberry/raspberry/Zin/bit peppery quite erathy/dusty/OV complex finish w/ some drying/astringent tannins; much like a 10-15 yr old Ridge BeattyRanch Zin but w/o the Draper perfume; a beautiful rustic/old-timey classic HM Zin nose but drying out a bit on the palate; still offers up some pleasure but on the downside; drink up. $39.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Vie is the wnry of Brian Kane. I was originally attracted to his wines by the Syrahs, which I thought were very good. But his wines have just sorta fallen off my radar, for no good reason. I need to reconnect w/ Brian next time I'm out there.
