WTN: Idlewild TheBee Flora&Fauna WW '14...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Oct 23, 2018 11:35 am

Tried this last night w/ my tomato:
1. Idlewild TheBee Flora&Fauna White NorthCoast WW (60% MuscatCanelli/30% Friulano/10% Cortese) 2014: Med.dark gold color; fairly strong floral/apple blossom light muscatty slight earthy/perfumed talc slight nutty/toasted hazelnuts bit waxy fairly complex rather quiet nose; bit soft some floral/apple blossom/rose petal/slight muscatty bit nutty/oxidative strong butterscotchy/caramel/waxy/honeyed/honeycomb somewhat quiet very interesting complex flavor; very long/lingering some waxy/honeycomb/honeyed/slight nutty very light butterscotchy/caramel light floral/muscatty/apple blossom bit chalky/perfumed talc rather complex finish; doesn't have the dramatic floral/aromatics of younger Bees but has evolved into a rather quiet/low-key quite interesting old white not too unlike an older Malvasia d'Istriana; probably should be drunk up and is going to only quietly fade into the sunset before winking out. $22.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Tasted this wine first back in May2015:
12. Idlewild TheBee Flora&Fauna White NorthCoast WW (60% MuscatCanelli/30% Friulano/10% Cortese) 2014: Light gold
color; quite fragrant/perfumed/aromatic light muscatty/very spicy light earthy/stony/mineral beautifully aromatic
very interesting nose; lightly tart very perfumed/aromatic spicy/graham cracker/perfumed talc low-key/muscatty
light stony/mineral flavor more like Muscat d'Istria than MuscatCanelli; very long/lingering lightly tart
low-key/muscatty very perfumed/perfumed talc light mineral/stony; a beautiful low-key Muscat w/ lots of
interesting things therein at a great price. $22.00

Sam's Bee is typically mostly Muscat (Canelli). Yet the intensity of Muscat in them is always rather low-key and not in-your-face muscatty. More like a Malvasia than a MuscatCanelli, particularly like a Malvasia d'Istriana than anything. This wine is old enough that it's lost much of that muscatty character...the kind of wine you'd like to sit down with and talk QuantuumPhysics, rather than hustle off to bed.
