2013 Idlewild Nebbiolo Fox Hill Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (11/16/2018)
There has been a little bit more development over the last half year. This is now drinking like a very nice Langhe Nebbiolo in terms of weight and structure. It shows the typical Nebbiolo rose petal, tar and red cherry aromas/flavors, and has a finishing kick of tannins to remind you that it is in fact Nebbiolo. Maybe the cherry fruit is amped up a bit more than in the Langhe, but that could just be me looking for it. Overall I am impressed that Sam Bilbro is making a wine like this in California, as he continues to push the ball forward on Italian varieties in the USA. This is a lovely wine to drink now, and I look forward to how future vintages continue to showcase Italian grapes on US soil.
