by TomHill » Mon Nov 26, 2018 3:42 pm

When we were visiting James up in Loveland, we tried:
1. Carlisle Compagni-Portis WW SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty (13.7%; Plntd: 1954; GWT/TrousseauGris/R; 200 cs) Windsor 2014: Med.gold color; beautiful fragrant GWT/floral/lychee/spicy light chalky lovely complex nose; lightly tart strong floral/GWT/spicy/lychee very perfumed rich/lush totally dry light chalky/perfumed talc lovely flavor; very long/lingering rich/lush strong lychee/floral/spicy slight chalky finish; just an absolutely beautiful drinking GWT w/ more yrs ahead of it.

2. Turley Zin DuPrattVnyd/MendoRidge (15.7%) Napa 2016: Very dark color; very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Zin/ripe/very spicy quite dusty/OV lovely complex nose; lightly tart very spicy intense blackberry/boysenberry/raspberry/Zin quite dusty/OV very light toasty/oak beautiful flavor w/ light smooth/ripe tannins; very long/lingering very spicy/blackberry/boysenberry/ripe very light toasty/oak rather dusty/OV finish w/ modest ripe tannins; does not show the alcohol at all; a lovely expression of DuPratt Zin; not as intense as the Carlisle but maybe expresses DuPratt Vnyd more. $48.00

3. Jaffurs PetiteSirah ThompsonVnyd/SBC (15.8%; Archibald Cuvee) 2004: Very dark/black color; very intense blackberry/boysenberry/ripe/PS/bit peppery some toasty/oak some smokey/pungent rather complex nose; lightly tart very rich/lush intense boysenberry/blackberry/PS rather toasty/oak fairly peppery slight alcoholic flavor w/ ample smooth/ripe tannins; very long/lingering intense PS/boysenberry/blackberry/bit peppery strong toasty/oak finish w/ some ripe/slightly gritty tannins; starting to show a bit of alcohol; still loads of intense PS fruit but probably not going to develop a lot of complexity.

4. Jolie-Laide TrousseauGris Fanucchi-WoodRd Vnyd/RRV (12.8%) 2017: Med.light salmon/copper color; rather spicy/floral/PG-like/spicy/cinammon rather attractive nose; quite tart/tangy very spicy/cinammon/PG-like/floral quite pleasant flavor w/ light tannins; med.long spicy/cinammon/floral slight earthy finish w/ light chewy tannins; an altogether pleasant TG/Ramato wine but nothing very special or exciting; good drinking but just that.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. DuPratt: This MendoRidge vnyd became famous in the early '70's when BarneyFetzer started sourcing Zin from there. But it really rose to fame when JedSteele started making DuPratt Zin in the mid-'70's under the Edmeades label. Some of the best Zins ever made from that vnyd and as good as any Zin in Calif. After Jed left Edmeades, the DuPratt Vnyd pretty much dropped off the map. The Zins he made under the Steele label never measured up to his Edmeades efforts.
Then, back in 2014, MikeOfficer sourced Zin from DuPratt and, singlehandedly, returned DuPratt to greatness. One of my favorite Carlisle Zins.
This '16 from Turley is their first DuPratt and continues to show the greatness of DuPrattVnyd.

2. Jafrfurs: This 2004 is the 2'nd vintage of Thompson PS by Jaffurs. More importantly, this is one of the very famous/very rare Archibald Cuvee Jaffurs PS.
