WTN: Burgs, Beaujolais, 80s Sonoma, Loire

A friend was in town on a break from helping with an elderly in-law, we invited her for dinner. Started with some Spanish marinated mussels, with the Brun (Terres Dorees) FRV 100. Light, fun, slurpilicious with candied cherry and pomegranate. B+/B

Dinner was bouillabaisse with the 2016 Domaine des Marrans Beaujolais Blanc. Clean, granny smith, good acids. B

Friday was leftovers- pork tenderloin, butternut squash, broccoli.

1983 Buena Vista “Private Reserve “ Cabernet Sauvignon (Carneros, Sonoma)
Not much experienced with this longtime but not well-respected winery. This was quite alive- red fruited, cedary, more acid left than tannin. Not real complex, but it was cheap at auction. B

2015 Bouchard Bourgogne Reserve
(not sure I’ve ever seen Reserve used in Burgundy before)
Ripe black cherry, simple and straighforward. B-

Baked flounder, bulgur, spinach
2012 Pepiere Ch.Thebaud Clos des Morines Muscadet
Big full and rich yet maintaining Muscadet tensile acidity. Pears and rocks. B+/A-

Took Betsy to Saint George in Hastings as an early birthday dinner. We shared salad, gnocchi with mushrooms, coq au vin, and duck breast (and Betsy had chocolate mousse). I had carried the 1996 Castagnier Bonnes Mares. Really nice showing - firm acids, just a bit of tannin remaining, good black cherry fruit accented with smoke and coffee. Nice length. A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Which Bouchard is this. Bouchard Pere & Fils, or Bouchard Aine & Fils?

The 'Reserve' is pretty weird. Playing (or pandering?) to people who have trouble understanding French wine labels, I guess.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Kind of used to seeing in Alsace or Rhone, or on cheap Bdx. Never seen in Burg before.
