Sunday Chat

by James Roscoe » Sun Dec 09, 2018 11:23 am

Sunday Chat lives on! It is the Holiday season. Come talk about your Christmas and New Years wines. Come talk about Saturnalia or whatever else floats our boat. Chat is easier than ever to join. Just hit the chat tab in the upper right corner and you are in Chat. Chat begins at 4:00 here in the eastern US, 3:00 in the Midwestern area, 3:00 in the Rockies, and 1:00 on the left coast. I think it’s 22:00 in most of Europe for the time being. That means 21:00 in Britain and 23:00 in the Mid East. I believe it’s 10:00 am in New Zealand and 8:00 am in eastern OZ. Have a great day! :D 8)

I've got news, Chatters! Sadly, the good folks at Parachat are abandoning the software as of December 31. They do offer us the option of leasing a new, higher-tech chat, but it's relatively pricey, and we'd have to hire a tech geek to install it. Accordingly, particularly given that it generally doesn't draw then numbers it used to, I'd like to suggest that we regretfully say buh-bye to the in-forum option as of the end of this year.

However, I wonder if it would be worth looking at creating a Facebook group chat for WineLoversPage. No charge, no technology worries, and about 80 percent of the world is on FB now. It might possibly boost chat activity, and if it doesn't, it wouldn't cost us anything. What does everyone think?

Fine for me Robin. I can only agree that the number of people attending chat these days is way to low to motivate a costly new solution. Maybe even the ease of using FB can attract some new (or old) names to chat.

I'll try to come to chat on the remaining Sundays of 2018. I hope some more will join me! Today I was alone for 45 minutes and then gave up...

Good night

Thanks, Anders! I'm torn because chat has a long history here, but it just seems that there are so many alternatives now. So if James The Chat Prince agrees, I'll set up a WLP.com chat on Facebook and put the link here. People who think they might want to be in a chat can click to join, and then when chat begins, everyone gets a notice. We'll see how it works, anyway!
