2018 Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau

I'm tardy on this note, but I do enjoy having a taste of the first wines of the year. Color me shocked that this year it was a decent wine. Acid, tannin, and fruit all in balance, frighteningly easy to drink. Definitely a bit of banana, but much less than I remember. If I was a cynic, I'd say that the dropoff in "hype" around nouveau wines has forced them to make a real beverage, rather than a winelike liquid. As if to confirm this, they are also selling a rose version, which I didn't try. And just in case anyone thinks I'm bluffing, I went back and bought another bottle. Can't remember the last time that happened.

I used to play Harry Belafonte's "Banana Boat Song" while drinking DeBoeuf Beaujolais. Both versions (red and rose) of the 2018 Noveau are available at the NH state liquor stores. I still think I'll pass on them, though.
