Wednesday I went into city and met my brother at Morton’s for dinner. For me chopped salad, small filet, and spinach/mushrooms. I don’t get to see my brother that often, so carried a birthyear wine for him. The 1961 Ch. L’Arrosee showed pretty well- nose had a little lifted/volatile quality, but not enough to really distract. Smoke and cedar aromas over the lifted notes, on the palate rather lush texture with flavors of cassis, black cherry, and herbs. Good length, mature but not tired. B+/A-, but an A for drinking with brother.
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
