WTN: Argyle Pinot Noir 2005

Williamette Valley.

I will be the first to admit that I am by no means an expert on Pinot Noir. However of the dozen or so examples I have tried over the years, I have liked pretty much all of them.

Bought this today to accompany lunch at an Ottawa restaurant and it was served in good, large glasses.

A fairly big nose, light cherry, spicy, good aromatics.

Cherry, tangy, smoky, earthy, red licorice, becoming fuller and richer and smoother in the mouth with air time. Refreshing and quite delicious.

Definitely one of my favorites vintage after vintage.

I enjoyed it so much that I came home and searched on the LCBO site to see if I could purchase some myself. It was $48 at the restaurant so, I figured, it might retail for around $20.

Luck was not with me however. The LCBO doesn't carry it. I assume the restaurant orders it straight from an agent-importer.

Yes, the wine was perfect. We ate at Luxe Bistro in Ottawa. We each had a Luxe club, which was so big that it would have put Dagwood Bumstead to shame.

Lovely, thick toasted bread, crispy bacon, a whole breast of chicken, some kind of rich cheese. It was delicious and filling.

Thanks. That gives me a perspective on whether it's a wine I'd want to try. Since it goes well with food, it's on my to try list.

At my older daughter's wedding in 2005, I served the Argyle 2003 Willamette Valley Reserve Pinot Noir. It was very well received.
