Le Clos Jordanne is back!

by Ted Richards » Sun Jun 23, 2019 4:25 pm

Some good news for fans of the old Le Clos Jordanne wines from Niagara, Ontario: Thomas Bachelder, their winemaker from 2004 to 2009 and Arterra, the owners (since 2016) of Jackson-Triggs, including most of the Le Clos Jordanne's vineyards, have gotten together to resurrect the brand. They have recently bottled 2017 Le Grand Clos Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and single vineyard bottlings will be released in November. As a bonus, Le Grand Clos is now $45CDN, instead of the $65-70 it was in its earlier incarnation.

Grapes from the old "La Petite Colline" vineyard, owned by the Neudorf family, are now used mostly by Domaine Queylus, where Bachelder is the consulting winemaker. A small portion is retained by the Neudorf family and vinified by Domaine Queylus' winemaker Kelly Mason under the Neudorf's "The Farm" label.

It will be interesting to see where this leads. They may bring back some of the other vineyards they used to make as well, I hear.

The article I quoted seems to say that they will, but in a podcast interview a few days ago (https://michaelpinkuswinereview.com/podcast/3041-podcast-2-guys-talking-wine-le-clos-jordanne-returns-episode-146), Bachelder seemed to say he didn't know if they would or not. I'm sure they won't get La Petite Colline again, unless they get into a bidding war with Queylus.
