WTN: A fun Loire Cab Franc

Most weeks I work mon-thu + sat so yeah, today is kinda the start to my semi-weekend. So I opened up a Loire Cab Franc that I hadn't noticed around here before (anything Loire other than Sauv Blanc is rare here), a Familie Bougrier St. Nicolas de Bourgueil "La Martinière" 2017. It's only 15€ so we're not talking anything truly special (at Alko's prices we can't get anything truly wonderful at such prices) but it is fun. It has all those aromatic greenish and earthy aromas that makes Franc appeal to me so much more than that boring old ubiquitous Cab Sauvignon. Fleshier than the 12,5% promises, quite ripe fruit, very refreshing herbaceous qualities though neither terribly acidic nor tannic. It's not a great wine but I have to say at Finnish prices this is incredibly satisfying. Buy again? Oh yeah, boatloads of it since it's the only affordable but true to style Loire Cab Franc we have available.

You touch on something I often think about. That I need more fun, fresh, less serious wines in my cellar. There are moments in life that call for that, where grander isn't better, and I'm out of those kinds of options (in red wine, anyway). Years back we blew thru a case of, not Loire, but Languedoc cab franc--$10 a bottle--and very much like your wine here. I miss having wines like that.
