WTN: De Bortoli dB Selection Petite Sirah 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Tue Feb 13, 2007 9:31 pm

South Eastern Australia.

Very dark purple in the glass.

Spicy, with rich, fresh-crushed fruit on the nose.

Smooth and plush in the mouth, rich and fleshy plummy fruit, a bit of an acidic zing, spicy, smoky, black licorice, sweet.

A very impressive wine.

From your notes it certainly sounds like it's drinking well. Is it any easy drinker in the Bogle style, or did you catch it before it started morphing?

Bruce, is that the Vat 1 that I posted on a while back. Good wine, QPR in my books.

Checked a previous WTN I had posted on this wine and it appears to have been firmer and heartier than was this bottle. So perhaps it has smoothed out a bit. Never tried the Bogle example.

There was no vat number indicated on the label Bob.

For me, the De Bortoli shows more depth and intensity of fruit than the Bogle; I do enjoy both wines, however.

Wasn't try to compare them at all. Just used Bogle as an example of an early drinker as opposed to most PS that requires seven or more to come around. Was looking for which category this one falls in.

Interesting so I have done some research this morning. Seems to be 3 different wines here including one labelled Vat 1 Durif!!!! Mine was P Sirah Vat 1.

Just to be sure, I went downstairs and dug through the recycling bin (oh, the things I do for you guys  ) and can confirm there is indeed no vat number on the label of the wine I had.
