WTN: Troon KubliBench Amber OR '20...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Sep 12, 2021 4:56 pm

Tried this ViniMacerati over the weekend:
1. TroonVnyd KubliBench Amber EstateVnyd/ApplegateVlly/OR (13.1%; 64% Riesling/27% Vermentino/9% Viognier; Certified BioDynamic; Frmtd: 3 weeks on skins; www.TroonVineyard.com) GrantsPass/OR 2020: Dark amber/burnished bronze some cloudy color w/ some tiny bubbles; rather appley/apple cider some resiny/phenolic/VM fairly aromatic R/mango/orangey bit honeyed/honey graham slight earthy rather complex nose; lightly tart/tangy somewhat rich/lush some phenolic/resiny/VM/apple cidery fairly floral/R/mango light honeyed/honey grahams very perfumed some complex flavor; long some VM/phenolic/resiny/apple cider some floral/R/mango bit earthy fairly rich/lush some complex finish w/ very little tannins; quite an interesting/complex VM w/ nice balance of VM character & floral R aromatics but shows a lot of tangy/cidery character not often seen in these wines. $29.00 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This is the 2'nd Troon wine I've tried, the other being a white Rhone blend. They are a "natural" wine producer, I believe, but their wines have been clean as a whistle and show no natty character whatsoever. This wine was showing a lot of mature character for such a young VM.

Troon is a winery I keep reading about but have yet to try their wines. Should get around to that. Also need to check a map to find out where the Applegate Valley is. I should know it.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Troon isn't "natural" but they are very focused on being good stewards of the land (biodynamics, regenerative agriculture) and minimalist in their winemaking. They do use sulfur though, so not going to win any Natural Wine Awards. ;)

Yeah, David....at least not from SweetAlice.
There are some who do call themselves "natural" but do use (minimal) SO2..usually at bottling.
