  • 2020 Hiedler Grüner Veltliner Löss - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal (9/17/2021)
Prototypical Grüner Veltliner, with crisp pear and cress, a touch of mid-palate richness that carries through the finish, and a lot of sustain for $20. I have not bought much entry level Grüner over the last several years, and this bottle reminds me that there is great value in the category.

Nice! I haven't had much luck with entry-level gruner either, though Hiedler sounds like a familiar name. I recently asked a local retailer about it and he said it just doesn't sell well. It would at $10 but at $20 and up it just sits there.

I get that.

I asked my favorite shop to bring in two Gruners for me. They made me promise to take all the bottles myself. They both come in 6-packs, so it's no big deal, but it underscores the point.

Well I still have one meant for the Gruner topic last month when, unfortunately, life went on hiatus while we dealt with a personal tragedy. I'll get to that and the meal I'd planned to make with it soon.

Posted this TN last month>>>>>
2019 Hielder Gruner Veltliner Loss, Kamptal Austria.

Light straw color. Aromatic with lycee, mango and pear. Lemon, grapefruit on entry, wet stones obvious.
"Love the minerals" from across the patio. Pleasant, easy to drink, guess standard fare. Could have used some added grip imo.
