  • 2001 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel - Germany, Nahe (9/20/2021)
Patio happy hour for the first weekday of our staycation, and what a way to start! Ripe peach, a dash of brown sugar and a cherry on top, it’s a peach upside down cake. Swish it around and there’s more spice, and the fruit gets more tropical. It’s never goes full pineapple/lychee as other bottles have, but this one had a really good cork, and no seepage issues, so perhaps staying a bit fresher, even at 20 years of age. There’s certainly no sign of a decline anywhere in the near or mid-term future, as the fruit is still strong, and the spice elements remain complimentary rather than dominant.

Thanks.
Do you generally have a preference for Hermannshohle or the Brucke in the GKA category? I've enjoyed both, but never had same vintage within a reasonable period.

Brücke for me, but Laura prefers Hermannshöhle, so you know how that goes!

And of course they aren’t really GKA. It’s just that they happen to have a gold-colored capsule.

Look, CT calls it GKA, so that settles it! :D
It seems to me that HH is more mineral, Brucke more tropical. Which is why I like the HH GGs, not sure I have seen a dry Brucke. Do they make?

Yes, Cornelius has started making a Brücke GG. I have never yet been able to get my hands on it.
