It’s interesting when a wine can provide a high degree of intellectual interest, but at the same time not much pleasure. Twenty-two years post vintage it’s still a brooding, savory, neutron star of a wine with more leather, soy, earth and old campfire than should fit into a bottle three times the size. What’s missing is a spark, an element of joy. Overall it falls a bit flat on the palate, perhaps for a lack of acidity. It’s long on memories, but short on life.
