WTN: More Bottom Feeding @ TJ's...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Oct 17, 2021 3:48 pm

Tried these two on Fri night after a bottom feeding expedition to TraderJoe's:
1. TraderJoe's PinotNoir GrandReserve Sta.RitaHills Lot #106 (13.7%) Bozzano&Co/MorganHill 2020: Med.color; very attractive PN/cherry/black cherry/rather spicy light pencilly/oak very pretty bit complex nose; lightly tart quite spicy bright/cherry/PN/black cherry light pencilly/oak flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long bright/cherry/PN/black cherry/quite spicy light pencilly/oak finish w/ light smooth tannins; quite a pretty red that speaks strongly of bright/cherry/PN; nothing profound but very pretty PN at a great price. $12.99 (TJ)

2. Syrah TheOriginals Wash State (14.2%) Quincy/WA 2018: Very dark color; very strong plummy/blackberry/Syrah/licorice slight earthy/loamy rather strong toasty/oak bit complex classic WashState Syrah nose; soft slight tangy very strong plummy/blackberry/Syrah/licorice rather earthy/loamy some toasty/smokey/oak flavor w/ light soft tannins; very long soft lush/ripe earthy/loamy strong blackberry/licorice/Syrah light toasty/oak finish w/ light soft tannins; a pretty classic expression of WashState Syrah but a bit on the soft/soupy/high-pH side; loads of Syrah flavor at a great price. $5.99 (TJ)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. PinotNoir: This is the 3'rd terrific wine value we've had from Anthony Bozzano's bulk wine operation in SLO. No idea who made the wine. Anthony used to work for the Millers at BienNacido and obviously has very good contacts in the CentralCoast area. Appears that there's a fair amount of this at various TJ's across the country.

2. Syrah: Again, have no idea who made this wine. The graphics on the label suggest it's a CharlesSmith/K-Vintners wine. It reminds me of his BoomBoom Syrah (a wine that sells very well in LosAlamos for some reason) at 1/3'rd the price. At this price, you usually get some pretty bland stuff like 2$Chuck. This is definitely not bland. Nothing profound but packed w/ flavor at a great price.

Went to TJs today. They had 2 bottles of Originals Syrah left. $5.99. They are mine now. Never know if they'll get more. Not easy to find a Syrah at the price point, much less a decent one. Quick check locally = starting prices about $10.

Not sure if Originals is a Syrah only or a blend, but at that price does it matter? If WA follows US rules, at least 75% must be Syrah.

Worth a purchase to me.

I often recommend good deals to others on my local wine/food Facebook page, and so looked for these in order to personally taste and recommend them. Neither is at our local TJ's.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
