WTN: Pol Roger Brut NV and Pride Claret 2008

Lockdown Wine #121 and #122. We are technically still on lockdown but the government seems to be more relaxed in order to open the economy. First time to have the whole family together for dinner since July just before Delta showed up.

Champagne Pol Roger Brut Reserve NV - One of the better basic Bruts out there. Very round, medium to full bodied. Even young, it's a great champagne. Went very nicely with spaghetti and bottarga, and gravlax.

Pride Mountain Vineyards Reserve Claret 2008 - Very tasty, even just popped and poured. But really opened up after about 30 minutes in the glass. Ripe, crunchy, plummy fruit. Sweet, but well balanced by tannins and acidity. Really close to peak, but I'm thinking maybe another 2 to 3 years to shed the baby fat and get more complexity. Still, gorgeous wine with a couple of steaks tonight.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

I have a 2005 Pride Claret waiting for me. Maybe soon.

Check that…it’s the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve.

The Reserve? I predict disappointment. You can't take that much oak.

But Jay, good news about getting together with family again--happy for you!
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
