WTN: Three Whites Wines....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Jan 05, 2022 4:03 pm

Tried these three whites over the last few days:
1. Drew Viognier ValentiRanch/MendoRidge (13.3%) Elk 2017: Light gold color; quite lovely floral/gardenias/ripe pear/Viog slight chalky very perfumed beautiful nose; lightly tart very strong floral/Viog/ripe pear/peach/gardenias light chalky/mineral bit complex lovely flavor; very long/lingering ripe pear/Viog/floral/gardenias/bit spicy fairly rich light mineral/chalky finish; this was a rather quiet Viog on release but has really put on weight, but still far removed from DollyParton territory; a beautiful elegant lush expression of Viog.

2. Piano de Daini Dd'OC: EtnaBianco (13%; 90% blend of Carricante w/ Cataratto/Grecanico/Inzolia; Enotec Imprts/GreenwoodVillage/CO) Tenute Bosco/Castiglione di Sicilia 2019: Med.light gold color; rather mineral/stony/earthy light floral/carnations slight metallic lightly spicy very attractive nose; fairly tart/tangy/bit metallic/steely mostly stony/mineral/chalky slight spicy rather savory/saline bit austere flavor; long rather tart/tangy/metallic fairly stony/mineral rather saline slight floral bit austere finish; a pretty classic Etna Bianco but rather on the pricey side. $37.00 (KK)

3. Ruth Lewandowsky Tatto American Dry White Wine (10.8%; skin contact, ZERO; U/U; www.RuthLewandowskyWines; FoxHill Friulano/ColeRAnch Riesling/LostHillsRanch Muscat) Geyseville 2020: Deep golden/burnished bronze quite cloudy color; quite cidery/fairly volatile rather phenolic/VinoMacerati/resiny/somewhat orangey little fruit some complex nose; very tart/tangy/acidic some fumey/volatile strong VM/phenolic/resiny/quite cidery very little fruit flavor w/ slight tannic bite; very long strong cidery/rather volatile rather VM/phenolic/resiny sparse fruit finish w/ slight tannins; a rather interesting/bizarre/eccentric skin-contact white to be enjoyable; rather boderline flawed but not at the Radikon level; not very pleasurable to taste & needs spicy food; develops overnight a bad wet dog fur/oxidative aftertaste; not a very pleasant wine. $24.00 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. The wines of EvanLewandowski continue to confound me. These are "natural" wines. The last two I've had were not very pleasurable and borderline flawed. But I have had some of his I liked a lot. Guess you pays your money & takes your chances.
